Project description

"Smart, sustainable, precise, repeatable, transferable and resilient - Agriculture under changing conditions of the future" Opportunities through digital innovation in on-farm research and precision experiments

Agriculture is a dynamic field that requires constant adaptation—be it to changing climatic conditions, market demands, or societal expectations. These adaptations can include changes in farming intensity, crop rotation, cultivation methods, mechanization, or the introduction of entirely innovative solutions. Although decisions are often future-oriented and uncertain, rigorous experiments with statistical support provide important insights. However, results can vary in practice, partly due to the specific conditions of each farm. Accompanying on-farm experiments, i.e., trials on the farm itself, can provide a remedy.

This is where the SNaPwürZ project comes in. It aims to develop a digital toolbox and experimental platform for on-farm experiments that enables farmers—both independently and in cooperation with advisors, researchers, companies, and colleagues—to efficiently investigate practice-relevant questions on their own farms. This toolbox will serve as a comprehensive assistant for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of experiments.

This initiative strengthens farmers' intrinsic motivation to experiment and develop innovative solutions on their own farms. It also enables rapid testing of new products under real-world conditions, thus expanding management options. The developed tools and methods will later be made available as open-source resources.
